Online OSS Curriculum Supplemental Modules

Framework and Context

Easily accessible content for learners and OSS providers.

The procedures and situations described in the modules are supplements to the OSS training program as the resident may not be exposed to all of these procedures or situations in the 6 month time frame. The OSS family physicians will be working in rural hospitals with no specialists, 4 units PRBC and often have difficulty transferring patients out due to weather/geography etc. so framing the modules around this lens would be really helpful.

Obviously, complicated maternity patients are referred to larger centres but unfortunately sometimes circumstances don’t always agree. Including as much practical information as possible in the modules will also make them invaluable as a resource for unexpected HALO events.

Goals

To develop educational modules on less frequently encountered procedures to supplement onsite training.

Website

Content will be available on an open website with the following groups.

  • Learners – read-only access to published online content
  • Content Leads – contributor who has access to create draft modules, make updates
  • Reviewers – peer-review panel who approve and publish modules

Modules will be individual webpages which can have embedded images, videos, and presentations. Modules will be sorted for easy access / reference.

Development

Each module will be developed by a volunteer OBGYN, OB resident, or OSS family physician in a basic format.  This will then be presented/reviewed by a small group (including residents, practicing OSS, OBGYN) for review and once ready will be uploaded to the OSS website.

Individuals can choose their topic to work on from the list of requested modules. Once posted online, modules will be credited to the people/organizations which contributed to the content.
